Privacy Policy

      Your journal entries are stored only on your device. We do not have accounts, we do not store your data on our servers, and we do not sell your information to anyone — ever.
    

1. Who We Are

Solace is a journalling app developed by The Ordinary Code. If you have questions about this policy, contact us at theordinarycode@gmail.com.

2. What Data We Collect

Solace is designed to collect as little data as possible.

Journal entries: Stored locally on your device using SQLite. We never upload your entries to our servers.
Mood selections: Stored locally alongside your entries. Not transmitted.
App preferences: Settings such as notification time and theme are stored locally on your device.

3. AI Reflections

When you save a journal entry and request an AI reflection, the text of that entry is sent securely to our backend (hosted on AWS) solely to generate a personalised response. This text is:

Transmitted over HTTPS
Processed by an AI model (Claude, provided by Anthropic) to generate your reflection
Not stored on our servers after the response is returned
Never used for advertising, profiling, or shared with third parties

Anthropic's data handling practices apply to the model inference step. You can review Anthropic's privacy policy at anthropic.com/privacy.

4. Advertising

The free version of Solace displays ads provided by Google AdMob. Google may use device identifiers and usage data to serve relevant advertisements in accordance with their own privacy policy. You can review Google's privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.

Purchasing the "Remove Ads" upgrade disables all advertising within the app.

5. Notifications

If you enable daily reminders, Solace schedules local notifications on your device. No notification data is sent to our servers. You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings or within the Solace app.

6. Biometric Authentication

If you enable the app lock feature, Solace uses your device's built-in biometric system (Face ID or fingerprint). We never access, store, or transmit your biometric data. Authentication is handled entirely by your device's operating system.

7. Data Exports

You can export your journal entries at any time from the app. Exported files are saved locally to your device and are your responsibility once saved.

8. Children's Privacy

Solace is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted data through the app, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted to this page with an updated date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
